Μεράκι | Dedication | merâki
The concept derives from the Arabic and Turkish term “Merak” (Labor of love, to do somthing with pleasure) and is usually applied to creative or artistic tasks, but could be applied to any endeavor. This is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe something done with soul, brilliance and care – when you leave “something of yourself” in what you do, whatever it may be. Creating something with joy, attention to detail, putting in the extra mile. With craftsmanship, this means « made with love, care and pride ».
Meraki is often used to describe cooking or preparing a meal, but it can also mean arranging a room, choosing decorations or setting a table with elegance. The idea of adding mindful love, and the essence of oneself to everything we do is a wonderful way to spread love and happiness: it means taking the time to dedicate oneself fully and concentrate on the activity at hand.
